UDHAMPUR, July 31: A delegation of Pakhalai villagers, led by State BJP general secretary Pawan Khajuria, called on Deputy Commissioner Udham-pur, Neeraj Kumar and apprised him of the problems being faced by the villagers.
The villagers informed that road to Pakhalai was in extremely condition notwithstanding location of the village near Udhampur town. In the rainy days, it becomes almost impossible for the public transport to ply on this bumpy road with the result that journey of a few minutes takes hours together while children and the elderly face extreme trouble.
As very few minibuses ply on the road, women and school going children face problems due to the overloaded vehicles and sometimes they are left with no option other than to miss the bus and walk through dense forests for reaching their destinations, Pawan Khajuria explained
The villagers also alleged that minibus operators on the route were charging arbitrarily fare. The administration has fixed Rs 17 as the fare but they are charging Rs 25 from them and if they refuse, the drivers threaten not to ply on the route, villagers said.
The Deputy Commissioner gave a patient hearing to the deputation and ordered the concerned officers to make proper arrangements to remove their problem at the earliest so that local residents could get relief.
