Jokes should not be made on sensitive issues: Bharti Singh

MUMBAI:  Reacting to the recent nepotism remarks by Karan Johar, Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan, comedian Bharti Singh says one should not make jokes on sensitive issues.

At the IIFA awards last month, the trio took a dig at actress Kangana Ranaut and her comments on nepotism. They drew flak on social media for their joke and later apologised.

On if one should make fun of other artistes, Bharti said, “I think jokes should be made on people who can take it in the right spirit. Like Maniesh Paul and I are good friends and we can make fun of each other.

“But at the same time I feel jokes should not be made on sensitive issue. But if they (referring to Karan, Saif and Varun) said in a joking way then it should not be made into an issue.”

Bharti says it is okay if an established film personality, be it an actor or a filmmaker, helps their family members in the industry.

“I have not seen it happening in television as here people are busy searching for good work for themselves. And it is okay to help your near and dear ones in the industry be it films and television,” she says.

Meanwhile, Bharti is excited about her next television show “Comedy Dangal” that will mark her debut as a judge.

The show will have two teams one headed by Bharti and other by music composer-singer Anu Malik.

The show goes on air from August 12 on &TV channel. (AGENCIES)
