JAMMU, Aug 10: Maintai-ning that J&K State Subject provision confers special privileges to all permanent residents of the State, irrespective of any region or religion, former Union Minister and ex PCC president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz today asked people in Jammu as well as Ladakh to be on same page with Kashmir in support of Article 35-A.
Talking to the Excelsior, Prof Soz quoted Durga Dass Basu, an eminent expert of the Constitution, and said that Article 35A is most prominent feature of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, as distinguished from the rest of India and confers special rights to the permanent residents with respect to employment under State Government, acquisition of immovable property in the State, settlement in the State, right to scholarship and such other forms of aid by the State Government.
“Article 35A protects these specials rights of permanent residents of all three regions and hence people from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have to be on same page for protecting this provision of the Constitution,” he stressed while urging for a unity over the issue.
Reiterating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should ask RSS to withdraw its petition from the Supreme Court challenging Article 35-A, Prof Soz warned that revoking this special provision has potential of triggering political and social commotion.
“RSS is playing a dangerous game and if these people succeed in getting Article 35A removed from the Constitution, it will cause unmanageable turmoil in the country, especially in Jammu and Kashmir,” he warned.
