SRINAGAR : Train service remained suspended for the third day today for security reasons in south Kashmir, while no train will chug in north Kashmir.
All train runs between Badgam-Srinagar in the central Kashmir to Anantnag-Qazigund in south to Banihal in Jammu region remained suspended for the third day, a senior railway official told UNI this morning.
No train will run on this route, he said adding this decision was taken after a fresh advisory was received from authorities and police last night. Train service will be resumed only after receiving green signal from the authorities.
He also said train service between Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir has also been suspended for security reasons. Train service was suspended on August 12 in the Kashmir valley for security reasons following strike called by both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the agitation, demanding right to self determination in protest against alleged attempts to abrogate Article 35-A of the constitution. However, it was resumed on Srinagar-Baramulla track yesterday.
During the past about two months train service has been suspended frequently for security reasons in the valley, where train property had suffered damage due to demonstration.
Last year train service remained suspended for about six months due to summer unrest in the valley. However, daily travelers are the most affected due to suspension of train service which is now being considered most trusted, cheap and fast. (AGENCIES)
