JAMMU, Aug 13: President Ram Nath Kovind will undertake his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir on August 21 when he would reach Leh and address troops including Ladakh Scouts and Guides.
This will be Kovind’s first official visit to any State and assumed significance as he would be addressing troops in Leh, which has un-demarcated Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
Kovind, who happens to be the Supreme Commander of three Services, will reach Leh in the morning on August 21. He will be received at Leh by top leadership of Jammu and Kashmir, Army officials and senior functionaries of Ladakh.
Sources told the Excelsior that Kovind would address troops including Ladakh Scouts and Guides.
“It will be one-day visit of the President, who would return to New Delhi from Leh,” sources said.
India and China have been involved in standoff at Doklam, the trijunction among India, China and Bhutan for past quite some time now.
Kovind was scheduled to visit Leh in connection with a religious function in June but had to cancel the visit as his name was announced for the post of President by the NDA. However, he had visited Srinagar, the summer capital of the State, in July to mobilize support of the MLAs for the election.
