Citizen contributes Rs 20 lakh to MAT

SRINAGAR, Aug 17: In a philanthropic gesture, a citizen wishing his name kept anonymous has contributed Rs 20 lakh to the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Aid Trust (MAT) headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
“The MAT Committee felt that this noble and benevolent gesture of the revered citizen would inspire more individuals and organizations in J&K to donate generously towards the MAT fund which otherwise received bulk of its funding in the shape of grants from the State Government”, said a spokesman of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
The spokesman said that the MAT scheme is administered by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat with the Chief Minister being the chairperson of the Trust.
“A Committee headed by the Administrative Secretary, Finance Department examines the deserving individual cases in which the medical aid will be admissible”, he said, adding that in its recent meeting chaired by the Principal Secretary, Finance Department, Navin Kumar Choudhary, the MAT Committee sanctioned an amount of Rs 51.25 lakh in favor of 190 patients undergoing treatment, within and outside the State for various life-threatening diseases.
Principal Government Medical College, Srinagar, Dr Samia Rashid and Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, who are the members of MAT also attended the said meeting.
