JAMMU, Aug 18: The workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena under the leadership of president Ashok Gupta staged a protest in Jammu City against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Power Development Department (PDD) for not providing electricity and drinking water supply to the people of Jammu City.
Expressing resentment over insufficient supply of electricity, the protesters carried fans in their hands to show that they were of no use without electricity.
Gupta alleged that the entire Jammu region is without light in sweltering hot and humid conditions.
He said, the long duration power cuts along with fluctuation and low voltage have made the lives of people miserable.
“The people are burdened with 18 to 20 hours long power cuts in this huge peak summer humidity. The women, children, old aged person, heart patients are suffering due to power cuts and there is no drinking water for the people,” added Gupta.
He further said that the people are purchasing water from the private water tankers as the department is unable to meet the requirement.
The Party President said that every year the people of Jammu are made to suffer during summers on account of power cuts and non-supply of drinking water.
Criticizing Government for the failure to keep its promise, Ashok Gupta said that it was the same Coalition Government which had given a categorical assurance that the areas which get electronic meters installed will not have to suffer any power cut.
“On one hand, the Government does not ensure regular supply of electricity and drinking water, on the other hand, it acts like dictator and immediately disconnect the connections if any consumer deposits tariff little late,” Gupta expressed.
“Apart from power cuts, most areas in Jammu were facing heavy voltage fluctuations which damage electronic gadgets”.
The protesters included Lal Singh, Krishan, Gurdass, Balbir, Raju, Lal Chand, Bantu, Ram Paul, Anil, Suresh, Arjun, Raghubir, Karan, Ajay, Subash and Abhishek.
