JAMMU, Aug 22: Expressing concern and dismay on the fate of much-hyped project on development of River Tawi on Sabarmati pattern, All Jammu Hotel Lodges Association has accused the Coalition Government of deliberately neglecting Jammu tourism projects..
Speaking in a meeting, the Association chairman Inderjeet Khajuria said that despite signing of MoU between the JDA and Sabarmati River Front Development Corporation during June last year,  it is disappointing that till date DPR for the project could not be finalized. “It is really unfortunate that PDP-BJP Government which mooted the pilot project during 2015 so far has yet to get commitment from any quarter on funding the project, which recently has been divided into three components,” he said and added that as per the present scenario, when the DPR is still under completion, funds are yet to be arranged how this project will see the light of the day is a distant dream?
Expressing similar concern, the Association president Pawan Gupta said that the economy of Jammu has suffered  a great setback and livelihood of more than five lacs dependent souls is at stake due to various factors such as Rail-link extension to Katra and continuous failure of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra year after year. “Of late, Jammuites had pinned their hopes on the commissioning of Artificial Lake on Tawi River for the survival and revival of tourism. The eighty-crore project was nearing completion except for construction of diversion channels for nallhas and municipal waste, which could be completed within a month time in case the Government had a will to do it,” he said and alleged that the Government did not consider the coming of lake in Jammu for promotion of tourism and closed the project by dint of a single stroke of pen declaring whole project as untenable.
The Association demands that the Govt should complete he Artificial Lake Project in the shortest possible time besides giving wide publicity in the State and outside for all the historical/religious places in and around Jammu including Shri Raghunath Ji Temple, Peerkho Jamwant Guffa, Bawewali Mata, Kol Kandoli Pehla Darshan, Border tourism,  Suchetgarh and other places in order to create attraction for tourists/pilgrims to have a comfortable stay for a couple of days.
