Road safety

Sir,
Road Safety Week is solemnized every year to awaken people about the safe passage on the roads. Substantial number of people are unaware about the rules and regulations long cherished by the Traffic management. Overloading of passengers in matadors at the nose of traffic personnels is a matter of concern that demands cognizance. Overtaking by matadors endanger the life of weak and women in a family way. Zebra Crossing is not taken seriously by the drivers. Even foot  paths at several busy chowks remain occupied by vendors.  The golden rule  ‘keep to the left’ is neither obeyed by two wheelers nor by auto-drivers which needs immediate monitoring by the men on traffic duty. Widening of roads in two capital cities Jammu and Srinagar needs immediate attention of the Govt. in view of huge traffic jams. Drinking while driving is a crime and driving  safe is a prize. Curve points on the roads  have to be properly indicated and designed so that smooth moving of the vehicles take place. Drivers holding license should be time and again properly verified and scrutinized so that no impersonation takes place while steering the vehicle. Playing old vehicles on the roads is a danger. Our  loading and should be  banned forthwith. In times of bad weather and also in hostile situations traffic movements need to restricted. The road safety onus lies on traffic managers as well and we are sure their expertise in this field will not go waste. Roads in bad shape need to be repaired.
Yours etc…
