JAMMU, Apr 27: Minister for Industries and Commerce S. S. Slathia, today inaugurated and commissioned the refurbished Export Oriented Handloom Development (EOHD) project at Samba at a function which was also attended by the MoS for Industries and Commerce, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma,
This facility was lying closed for the past sometime but has now been revived at a cost of Rs. 6 crore which came in the form of assistance from ASIDE. The project comprises of state of the art facilities for washing, dyeing, processing of cotton and linen which will be available to Government departments as well as to the weaver at a nominal cost. This will help in quality control and standardization which would be immensely beneficial to the local artisans.
The project did not have a sub-station for power and its machinery could not run on the normal supply. Accordingly, 630 KVA Sub-Station, which was announced by Mr. Slathia during his visit to the facility last month, was inaugurated today and was completed in a record time of one month at a cost of Rs 80 lakh by SIDCO.
In his address, Mr. Slathia exhorted upon the workers and management of J&K Handloom Development Corporation Limited to work with zeal and dedication so that targets fixed for the corporation are achieved. He also impressed upon the management to ensure highest standard of quality so that the products can compete in the market across the country.
Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, also spoke on the occasion. The function was also attended by the District Development Commissioner, Samba Mubarak Singh, SSP Samba Israr Khan and HoDs of Industries and Commerce Department.
