KATHUA, Aug 24: The alert sleuths of Excise Department at Toll Post Lakhanpur foiled yet another bid of smuggling the banned polythene bags into the State and seized 2000 kgs (20mts) of polythene which were being smuggled into the State late last night.
The Excise sleuths who were on duty at Toll Post Lakhanpur on a tip off caught a truck bearing registration number JK05D-0471 which was entering the State and on its search recovered the banned polythene from it. The Excise sleuths seized both truck and polythene. The consignment was sent by M/S Lotus Transport Company Regd 3374 Delhi with Branch Office at Parimpora Transport Nagar Srinagar.
As per the documents with the truck driver the vehicle was carrying trade goods vide lorry challan Number 2098 and GR number 4526 declaring the goods as packing materials consigned by M/S Well Craft Industry vide invoice Number W/21 dated 22/08/2017 to M/S Carrywell, Barbar Shah, Srinagar.
However, on physical checking , the vehicle was found loaded with 2000 kgs of Polythene concealed beneath the other goods. The smugglers tried to clandestinely bring the polythene into the State, in the garb of `trade goods’. The vehicle along with seized polythene has been handed over to concerned agencies for taking further action under rules.
The entire operation was supervised by Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan and carried out by Excise and Taxation Officers Sheraz Ahmed, Virender Singh Pawar, Peer Smsuduha and Vikas Anand and Inspector Veeraj Raina, Sub Inspector Raghunandan Mishra and Excise Guard Ajay Kumar.
Javed Ahmed Khan, Excise Commissioner J&K and Vishesh Mahajan, Deputy Excise Commis-sioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur, while complimenting the officials of the Excise Department, enjoined upon them to work even more hard with zeal and dedication to thwart the nefarious designs of smugglers in future also.
