JAMMU, Aug 25: North-ern Railways today cancelled at least 18 trains from Jammu and Katra stations after law and order problem in Haryana while huge rush of stranded  passengers was reported at Jammu, Udhampur and Katra Mata Vaishnodevi Railway Stations.

The operation of inter-state buses was also suspended from Jammu  and other stations for Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand by the SRTC and other private operators due to violence in Haryana.
Senior Divisional Traffic Manager, Northern Railways, Jammu, Navin Kumar Jha told the Excelsior that in view of violence and law and order problem in Haryana, the operation of at least 18 trains from Jammu and Katra Mata Vaishnodevi has been suspended today. The decision regarding suspension of trains has been taken as precautionary measures and safety of passengers and Railways property by the higher authorities in Delhi, he said.
Replying to a question, the SDM (T) said that all the morning trains arrived Jammu from various destinations  and the last one arrived here  in the afternoon. He said  up to  9 AM tomorrow, till the departure timing of Malwa Express, no train will be allowed to move towards Haryana- Delhi and other destinations. The security situation will be reviewed in the morning at the Union capital by top brass and thereafter, on the directions of the higher authorities,  the train service will be resumed. He, however, maintained that DMU was plying between Udhampur-Jammu and Pathankot normally.
A Northern Railways spokesman said that due to cancellation of  trains, huge rush of passengers has been reported from Jammu and Katra Railway Stations.  Many passengers are expecting that trains will start operation in the mid-night and they continued to stay at the station along with their luggage. Same is the position at Udhampur and Katra stations. So thousands of passengers have been stranded at several Railway Stations of the Jammu region.  There is no sufficient space for the trains at Jammu Station, therefore, several trains have been stopped at various stations including Udhampur, Katra, Bari Brahmana,  Bajalta, Samba, Vijaypur etc.
The spokesman disclosed that the trains which have been cancelled today are- 19224 Jammu Tawi-Ahmedabad;  18218  Jammu Tawi- Durg (weekly), 12920 Katra – Indore; 12472 Katra Mata Vaishnodevi- Bandra Mumbai; 12238 Jammu Tawi- Bilaspur; 18102 Jammu Tawi- Tata Nagar;  14034 Jammu Tawi- Delhi, 12414 Jammu Tawi-Ajmer; 14610 Katra MVD- Rishikesh Hemkund; 13152 Jammu Tawi-Kolkata, 13151 Kolkata- Jammu has been stopped at Saharanpur station;  12426 Jammu Tawi- New Delhi, 12492 Jammu Tawi -Muzaffarpur; 14646 Jammu Tawi-Delhi Shalimar; 12446 Kata –  Delhi; 11078 Jammu Tawi-Pune Jhelum; 14502 Katra MVD – Bathinda; 16032  Katra MVD to Madras  and 22462 Katra MVD to New Delhi.
Meanwhile, the operation of inter-state buses from Jammu towards Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan remained suspended in view of violence. J&K State Road Transport Corporation fleet operating on these routes remained off the road today. Similarly, the inter-State buses from Punjab Roadways, Haryana Roadways, Delhi Transport Corporation etc also suspended operation.
A senior official from JKSRTC claimed that all the buses operating outside the State had already been asked to report back in view of possible trouble and  violence over the issue of Baba Ram Rahim court case. He said the Corporation will not send its buses outside the State till the situation improves.
