Mobile internet service suspended in Pulwama

SRINAGAR: Mobile internet service of all cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), has been suspended since early this morning as a precautionary measure in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where a group of fidayeen stormed into District Police Line (DPL), killing a policeman and injuring four others.
Official sources said that mobile internet service has been suspended in the district as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of any rumours. Authorities have in the past also suspended internet services on many occasions, claiming that it was used by ‘anti-national elements’ to incite people and create law and order problem during counter-insurgency operations.
A group of fidayeen in the wee hours today stormed into DPL Pulwama after lobbing grenades and resorting to heavy firing on the security guards.
One policeman was killed and four others, including three CRPF jawans, were injured in the initial attack. The injured have been rushed to 92 Army Base Hospital in Srinagar.
Heavily-armed militants later entered a building in the DPL, they said, adding that massive operation was going on against the holed up militants. (AGENCIES)
