SRINAGAR, Sept 1: A policeman was killed and seven others were injured as militants attacked a police bus in Pantha Chowk area on the outskirts of Srinagar this evening.
Police said that militants ambushed a bus on its way from Zewan to Srinagar at Pantha Chowk area in the outskirts of Srinagar this evening.
Police said that eight policemen were injured and one of them succumbed to injuries. They said that injured included Head Constable Kishan Lal, Constable Merajudin, Head Constable Abdul Hamid and Head Constable Shabir Ahmad. The four injured were admitted to hospital where Head Constable Kishan Lal succumbed to injuries.
Senior police and security force officials reached the spot and massive search operation has been launched in the area against the militants responsible for the attack. Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) has claimed responsibility for the attack on police.
The attack comes when Inspector General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Kashmir Range, said that the Kashmiri militants have gone into hiding and Pakistani militants belonging to various outfits have taken their place after ‘Operation All Out’ launched by security forces.
Security forces have killed over 3 dozen militants including 7 top commanders of LeT and Hizbul Mujahideen including Abu Dujana and Yaseen Itoo.
