JAMMU,  Sept 4: The people from Pargwal and Khour today held  demonstration outside the office of Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) at Rail Head Complex here and conducted the ‘gherao’ of Corporation officers, to lodge their protest against cancellation of tender of prestigious Rs 206 crore bridge over river Chenab under CRF in the area.
The people from Pargwal and Khour area led by State convener of BJP Border Cell, Jai Singh,  assembled at JKPCC office here and conducted ‘gherao’ of the officers including GM, several DGMs and others. Though Managing Director of the Corporation, Dalip Thussu was also here but he managed to slip away  after observing trouble there.
The people including most of them, Block Committee members were raising slogans against the Managing Director of the JKPCC and  Commissioner /Secretary R&B and also in support of their demand. They demanded that cancelled tender be revoked  and MD should be removed because he failed to finalized the tender process even after 13 months.   They said the MD and his Technical team  sought extension four times for opening  financial bid and thereafter, cancelled the tender. They demanded that MD should be removed and action  be taken against him for the lapse.
MLA Akhnoor, Rajiv Sharma said that after the lapse of 13 months, MD JKPCC Dalip Thussu cancelled the same on flimsy grounds just to accommodate his favourites. Now,  he has written to the R&B Department to go themselves for fresh tenders. If he is incompetent, he should be ousted by the Government. He further demanded that same tender should be revoked to save the time and this project. If fresh tenders are invited it will take yet another year and the this important bridge will certainly go for de-sanction, causing massive loss to the people of Akhnoor, Khour and Pargwal. The MLA said that he would take up case strongly with the CM.
Border Cell convener,  Jai Singh warned to intensify agitation and make it public movement in coming days if the R&B authorities failed to revoke the tender and allot work to a national level big company because it would be longest bridge in the northern India.
