GMC PG docs resume work after six days

Srinagar, Sept 6: Following official assurance of settling their pay disparity issue within one month, Post Graduate (PG) doctors of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar today called off their strike and resumed their routine duties after six days.
At least 400 PGs were on strike since August 31over pay disparity in GMC associated hospitals including key tertiary hospital SMHS. The doctors were demanding an end to pay disparity and were seeking same amount which their counterparts at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) are being paid.
The strike by junior doctors affected working of In Patient and Out Patient departments at SMHS and other GMC associated hospitals for six day. However, the Principal Secretary to Government Heath and Medical Education Department, Dr Pawan Kotwal yesterday in a meeting assured the agitating doctors of settling their issue within a month while he admitted that there is pay disparity. Meanwhile, the doctor today returned to their work and joined their duties which caused respite to patients.
