Punjab resident apprehended with poppy straw

JAMMU, Sept 7: Gangyal police under “Operation Sanjeevani” apprehended a Punjab  resident along with 10 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Gangyal police station raised a checking point at Kunjwani Chowk and intercepted a pedestrian, who was moving under suspicious circumstances.
At first, the pedestrian tried to escape, but the cops intercepted him after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 10 kilograms of poppy straw from the bag being carried by the pedestrian and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Balbir Singh, son of Mastan Bhatia, a resident of Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
During questioning, the accused revealed that he had brought the consignment from Srinagar for selling among the youth. With his arrest, police saved the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 64/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at police station Gangyal and further investigation of the case is going on.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
