Expedite work on flyovers, JICC, lake on Tawi: CCI

JAMMU, Nov 4: Accusing State Government of providing treatment of second class citizens to the people of Jammu, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu today demanded that work on the important projects here including three flyovers, Jammu International Convention Centre, artificial lake over river Tawi, 4th bridge on Tawi, Gandola at Mubarak Mandi and creation of multi-story parking facility at existing General Bus Stand be taken up on priority.
Addressing a press conference here today, president of the CCI, Y V Sharma  pointed out that city beautification activities, repairing of roads and lanes, street lights etc here start only on the arrival of the Darbar Move offices, giving an impression and sense of feeling among the people there that such facilities are only meant for the people arriving here during move including the VIPs. He said people remained protesting for the last 6-7 months in Jammu for power and water crisis, worst condition of roads and lanes in the city here but nobody bothered about the plight of the Jammuites. Now, before the opening of Darbar Move offices, the works started and even completed in record time. It is the responsibility of the Government to ensure equitable development in all the regions but here it stood exposed, he maintained.
The CCI president said that in view of traffic congestion in the city, the construction work on three proposed flyovers be started immediately and flyover should also be proposed at Ambphalla-New Plot-Janipur road. The work on 4th Tawi bridge and International Convention Centre besides Tawi lake be expedited as nearly one crore pilgrims visit here annually. The work on rope way trolley from Mubarak Mandi  to Bagh-e-Bahu artificial lake should also be started. He pointed out that a project of raising multi-storey parking facility at General Bus Stand needed to be taken in hand shortly and existing Bus Stand be used only as Terminal point while idle parking from here be removed without any further delay. It would help in containing traffic congestion.  He demanded that Ranbir canal and Tawi water should be kept clean and drain water of the city should not be allowed to fall into the river.
The Chamber while appreciating the initiative of the Omar Government to introduce traffic light system in the city stressed for the strict monitoring by Traffic cops at such points as many vehicles are often seen jumping traffic lights, inviting chances of accident. He also demanded expansion of Jammu Railway Platform and raising additional infrastructure there to cater to the rush of Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims and other tourists. Mr Sharma demanded that Jammu airport be developed as an international airport.
Referring to the issues of  traders and industrialists, the CCI president said that traders should not be put to harassment at Lakhanpur especially during festival seasons. The Government must provide congenial atmosphere for the growth and hassle free conduct of trade activities in the State.  He demanded that new Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur be made functional and the Government must ensure industrial package along with income tax exemption, establishment of a Central Public Sector unit here. He demanded that the power supply situation for industry and general consumers be improved and the facilities at Narwal business hub, Transport Nagar and Fruit Mandi be improved for quality life.
