JAMMU, Nov 4: Chairman Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra today sanctioned Rs 16.50 lakh from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for construction of the building, for the Government Primary School Lower Dhounthly, below Panjthirthi area on Circular Road.
The funds released for the primary school, which has majority of students from the labour families living in the nearby slum area, would be spent on the construction of the school building and creation of all other basic facilities.
The Chairman visited the area and announced the funds on the spot, after making a firsthand assessment of the requirements for the school. The school is being presently run from a makeshift shelter.
Interacting with the locals, the Chairman said that it was a long pending demand of the parents of the students, who were being taught by the teachers in open due to lack of building. He said that the school building would have all basic amenities, including safe drinking water, toilet and other facilities. He assured that the work on the construction of the building would be started soon.
Responding to other issues raised by the people, Mr Malhotra said that the demand of opening of dispensary and construction of local nallah would be taken up with the concerned departments for early redressal.
The Chairman also instructed the concerned authorities to maintain cleanliness in the area after the locals complained about unhygienic conditions.
