Passion is what makes geniuses

Stephen Hawkings- suffering from a rare motor neuron disease; is still passionate for his work. He lets his passion guide his soul. In his words- ‘However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.’
APJ Abdul Kalam- from a newspaper seller to a renowned scientist and India’s eleventh President. He states-‘Determination is the power that sees us through all our frustrations and obstacles. It helps in building our willpower which is the very basis of success.’
Sudha Murthy- studied in an all boys engineering college because of her passion for engineering, also became the chairman of Infosys Foundation and a great philanthropist. In her words- ‘Life is an exam where the syllabus is unknown and question papers are not set. Nor are there model answer papers.’
Narender Modi- from a tea seller to India’s Prime Minister. He states- ‘If you are determined nothing can stop you from determining your dreams.’
Mary Kom- an Olympic Indian boxer hailing from Kom tribe in Manipur. She came from a poor background and with her will and determination managed to be the only women boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships. She states- ‘ Don’t limit your challenges. Challenge your limit.’
Mark Zuckerberg- co-founder and CEO of social networking site Facebook and one of world’s youngest billionaires. In his words- ‘ People don’t care about what you say; they care about what you build.’
Malala Yousafzai- a Pakistani activist for female education and youngest ever Nobel prize laureate. She says- ‘ If we want to achieve our goal, let us empower ourselves with the weapon of knowledge and let us shield ourselves with unity and togetherness.’
The list of people is endless but the basic instinct is analogous. Determination is a magical element which illuminates life once we decide to take action, to strive, to struggle, to have passion for our wishes, desires and dreams. This is our life. This is our ride. We have to decide whether we want to crawl or fly! Difference between impossible and possible lies in a person’s determination. Many a time, we find ourselves stuck somewhere, bored or may be in a form of non- commitment. This is how we waste the precious moments of our lives. If we find ourselves unfocused, this is the time we need to make a decision. Commitment leads to change. Setting a goal and demanding a standard for ourselves requires effort, diligence, patience and willpower. Determination of vital is not enough; we also need the will of the soul. It ultimately comes from the soul. In ordinary human life, when we are determined to do something, we maintain our determination for five minutes and then all our determination is gone. But once we know what is the soul’s willpower, we can definitely achieve it. Most people think our strength is what we are good at, and our weakness is what we are bad at. Just because we are good at something doesn’t make it a strength. We must also have a passion for what we are doing- that’s what  qualifies it as a strength.
RAVAN- a great scholar and a devotee of Lord Shiva. He did his share of sins but he had all powers of being a legend. He was a benevolent ruler who cared for his people. He was relentless in his pursuit of his passion. He was an over- achiever, who was willing to make great sacrifices for his dreams. When he was in tapasya, story says he cut off his head ten times to please Lord Shiva, and each time a new head grew so he could continue his tapasya. He was a man who conquered all odds, who chased big dreams, and was not afraid to get up after he had fallen down. Then why does everyone hate him so much? Why, till date, we burn his statute? Because he succumbed to the allure of his own achievements. He began to believe that he was better than anyone, that he was invincible. He was infected with the vilest disease of all- ARROGANCE.
The difference between a successful person and other is not lack of strength, lack of knowledge, but lack of will. No one who achieves success does so with acknowledging the help of others. If their gratitude is missing, their success can never be long lasting.
‘How dare he’ or ‘who the hell does he think he is, talking to me like this’ , are statements that come by one’s own power and overconfidence. We can choose our destiny. Lying within each one of us is the possibility of greatness, the potential to achieve great good, or great evil. And which one we end up with is a choice we make. Whether we want to be RAM or RAVAN, a dev or a rakshas, both possibilities lie within us.
In words of Marco White- “Success is born out of arrogance, but greatness comes from humility.”
As the saying goes- “we are more vulnerable than we ever thought, but we are more stronger than we ever imagined”. Finding gratitude is the key to resoluteness. People who take the time to be grateful for who they are, are far more happier and healthier. It turns out that counting our blessings can actually increase our blessings. Gratitude is simply ‘ the quality of being thankful.’ Humility is the key to gratitude because living humbly is the true approach to life. We all need others. We are not self- sufficient. We did not create ourselves. We depend on parents, friends, government, and God, to provide what we cannot provide ourselves. A humble person would only say that life is a gift to be grateful for, not a right to be claimed.
There is a thin line between confidence and arrogance; it’s called humility. Confidence smiles-Arrogance Smirks!
