POONCH, Sept 10: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi, a  prominent Gujjar leader and intellectual of Jammu and Kashmir has appealed the Chief Minister of the State that Gojri language should be introduced as a compulsory subject in the syllabus of the educational institutions of the State on the pattern of Kashmiri, Dogri and Punjabi languages as recently introduced by the State Government in its educational institution.
This will not only ensure the development of the language but will give an impetus to it also, he said in a statement issued here today.
Hakla further added that the Gojri language is being spoken by a large number of population of Gujjar and Bakerwals of the State, the number of which goes over 34 lakh which in no way could be ignored.
The mother tongue of these people is Gojri, therefore, keeping in view the demand of such a huge number of population of Gujjar and Bakerwals of the State, the inclusion of Gojri language in the education syllabus of the educational institutions of the State as a compulsory subject is most genuine and justified demand, Hakla said.
