REASI, Sept 19: Farmers of Reasi district today held a strong protest against Agriculture Department as a particular variety of maize seed supplied to them in the current season did not produce quality crops and the yield has gone down.

The aggrieved farmers assembled at main bazar and took out a protest march which culminated at Thappa Chowk outside Agriculture office. They shouted slogans against department and burnt the crop bundles outside the office.
The farmers said that the seeds provided to them were of bad quality and the poor farmers suffered heavy loss due to this. The farmers asked the Government to compensate them and threatened to launch an agitation if their demand is not conceded.
The protesting farmers dispersed off only after Police reached the spot and SHO Reasi pacified them.
