JAMMU, Sept 19: After six days of intense shelling, guns fell silent along the International Border in Arnia sector last night as there was no report of any ceasefire violation by Pakistani Rangers.
Educational institutions, however, remained closed as a precautionary measure to ensure safety of the students, official sources said.
There was no report of any ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the International Border in the Arnia sector during past 24 hours, sources said but added that the BSF troops remained on high alert and ready to retaliate to any kind of misadventure by Pakistan on the borders.
Some people from the border villages of Arnia sector have shifted to houses of their relatives in safer zones while very few have reported to the relief camps set up by the administration.
A BSF jawan and a woman were killed and 10 persons were injured during the past six days due to intense shelling by Pakistan in the sector.
A temple and several houses were also damaged while a number of bovine animals died in the firing and shelling which mostly took place during night hours.
Sources said that most of the schools, especially those in the firing range of Pakistan forces, remained closed as a precautionary measure.
The authorities are monitoring the situation and a decision to reopen the schools depends on the emerging situation, they said.
