JAMMU, Sept 21: Demanding apology from the Jammu University Vice Chancellor for his highly objectionable remarks on victims of sexual harassment on campus, the activists of National Secular Forum (NSF) staged a protest demonstration, here today.
NSF activists raised slogans against the VC and deplored him for siding with the accused of sexual harassment and making fun of the victims by terming their complaints as ‘Masalewazi’.
The NSF also expressed concern for the security of all those people who deposed as witnesses in the sexual assault cases owing to the indifferent attitude of JU authorities, which have been siding with the accused rather than victims.
The NSF pointed out that a sexual harassment accused faculty member was recently given undue favour by appointing him on a plum post and this was enough to gauge the state of affairs in JU. “Why the VC is keen to encourage the sexual harassment accused on the campus? He owes an explanation to the people in general and the University staff in particular as to why all the sexual harassment accused are being shielded?” activists said.
They appealed Governor, N N Vohra, and the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take serious note of the objectionable words by the Vice Chancellor and immediate sack him from the post to maintain the sanctity of the Chair.
Among those who were present in the protest, included Anshu Sharma, Harsh Sharma, Ashish Verma, Munish Sharma, Abinash, Rohit Kumar, Aman Sharma, Varun, , Navdeep Singh, Tushar Dadyal, Surjit, Rahul Singh, Sachin, Shubham, Sunil Bhau, Kanav, Kishore Singh, Vishal Kumar, Surinder Singh Manhas and others.
