Train services resume in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Train services resumed in the Kashmir valley today after daylong suspension due to security reasons following strike called by traders and transporters and supported by separatists in protest against summoning more people by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with terror funding.
”We have resumed all train runs in the Kashmir valley today,” a senior railway official said.
He said a fresh advisory was received last night from the civil administration and police to resume the train service in the valley, where no train operated for a day on Monday.
Therefore, he said, train run resumed this morning between Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in north. Similarly, train service has been resumed on Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
”We have to act as per directions from the administration,” he said, adding that decision to suspend or resume train service depend upon the advisory from the police and administration who are taking decisions keeping in view the security of the passengers.
In the past, railway property, including stations and trains, suffered massive damages in violence in the valley. However, during 2016 summer unrest, train services remained suspended for six months.
Train service has become very popular in the Kashmir valley, where people prefer it against other mode of transport as train service is very cheap, safe and fast. (AGENCIES)
