Work affected in offices as Govt employees go on strike

JAMMU, Nov 7: Normal work in many Government and Public Sector Undertakings offices was affected with the ‘Kaam Choor Hartal’ of the employees while in many offices the workers held protests and staged dharnas across the State today.
On the second day of the protest programme of the JCC today, the employees’ bodies associated with the JCC leadership, including Abdul Qayoom Wani, Khursheed Alam, Kulwant Singh, Mohd Gafoor Dar, Ganesh Khajuria, Sayeda Ladakhi, Amrik Singh and others observed ‘Kaam Choor Hartal’. The employees held protest demonstration at their respective offices and then held day long protest dharna in support of their demands.
At Agriculture Complex Talab Tillo, Jammu, the employees held strong demonstration, followed by day long  protest rally-cum- dharna. The employees of the adjoining departments like Command Area Development, Rural Development, Animal Husbandry etc also joined after staging protest at their respective offices for some time.
Senior JCC leader and president of All J&K Agriculture Employees Association Jammu province, Amrik Singh was leading. Mr Singh and several other trade unionists addressed the gathering and criticized the Government for turning deaf ear towards the pending demands of the employees. He said Government’s  high powered committee led by Devender Singh Rana, Political Advisor to Chief Minister signed agreement with the JCC members but the agreement was not honoured despite time frame given to the employees leadership. He alleged that Government failed to act on issues of regularization of daily wagers/ad hoc/contractual workers, enhancement of retirement age of employees, removal of pay anomalies, budgetary support to PSUs etc.
Uttam Sharma, Zaffar Ulah Khan, J P Verma, Naresh Sharma and Deep Kumar also addressed the gathering. The work in these offices also remained affected today. However, some senior officer were seen attending their duty.
At JMC complex Town Hall, Udhyog Bhawan, JKPCC, Sheep and Wool Department, Directorate of Education complexes , the employees held strong protest demonstration and dharna. The work in these offices was also affected due to employees’ strike.
Similar protest dharna were held in the offices at various district and tehsil headquarters throughout the State. Several senior leaders of the JCC visited offices in the city here and addressed employees’ gathering. The public had to suffer due to strike of the employees. The work in many Government schools was also affected.
In Civil Secretariat, there was no strike at all and the work in various departments went on smoothly. In Kashmir the impact of strike was more as compared to Jammu region.
