Man’s body recovered in Billawar

KATHUA, Nov 7:  Body of a villager was recovered from fields near Daralta in Billawar tehsil of district Kathua this morning.
The deceased was identified as 27-year-old  Maan Singh, son of Uttam Singh, resident of  Daralta village. Some people noticed the body lying in the fields this morning and informed police. The police party led by SHO Billawar reached the spot and shifted the body to hospital for postmortem.
No external injury was visible on the body  and police after conducting postmortem and performing legal formalities, handed over the body to the family.
SDPO Basohli-Billawar, Mohd Rafiq when contacted said there was no injury marks visible on the body of the deceased. He said on November 1, wife of  the deceased, Morni Devi, had alleged that she was raped by one Abdul Ghani alias Dhannu, son of Taj Din of the same village. Billawar police registered a case under Section 376 / 457 RPC against  Abdul Ghani and arrested him. The victim ( Morni), during her statement before the judge at Billawar, changed the statement  and claimed that Abdul Ghani had only made attempt to rape her and he escaped after she raised alarm. The husband was apparently upset after the incident.
Mr Rafiq said the police was working on different angles and inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC has been initiated.
