POONCH, Oct 5:  Disturbed due to constant shelling from Pakistani side, the people residing closer to LoC in Saujian and other adjoining areas today held protest demonstration at Mandi town and blocked road for about four hours.
The villagers including children and women assembled at main town near bridge at Mandi at around 8.30 am and started  protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against Pakistan and State Government as well. They alleged that due to continuous firing from Pakistani side, they are spending sleepless nights. They are under constant fear and their houses are also being targeted by the Pakistani troops.
The border villagers said that they are unable to work in the fields and move freely. The studies of the children are also affected with the firing as many people have stopped sending their children to the schools fearing shelling by Pak troops. They demanded that bunkers be constructed in the area for their safety. They demanded peace along the LoC.
The movement of traffic remained suspended up to 12.15 pm and later Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar and DySP arrived there. They pacified the agitating people  and assured them to take up their demand with the Deputy Commissioner Poonch  and the higher authorities. Then they lifted dharna from the bridge and allowed movement of traffic.
