DDC reviews disaster preparedness of deptts

KUPWARA, Oct 9: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir, reviewed the disaster preparedness and management in districts Kupwara and Handwara during a meeting held here today.
During the meeting, DDC informed that two disaster management control rooms are being established at Kupwara and Handwara with requisite infrastructure and communication network. Moreover, directions were passed to the concerned departments to nominate nodal officers at district, tehsil and department levels.
The DDC was informed that 29 trained officers under GRF arranged by the Civil Defence with required equipment’s are lying at store of DPL Kupwara. Khalid Jahangir, who is also Chairman of DMA, issued instruction to the departments that action plans in this regard must be submitted and mock drills must also be conducted in this regard.
Need for Wire-less sets was also highlighted besides seeking action plan from all stake holders within next three days besides conducting of joint mock drill at Kupwara and Handwara in near future to create awareness among the general public to avert all disasters as a precautionary measures.
The DC also stressed on coming forward of volunteers for disaster management training. Officers of different departments gave valuable suggestions to the chair. CMO Kupwara presented a detailed report of action taken so far. Further, the availability of fire extinguishers at Government establishments and schools was also reviewed.
The meeting was attended by SSP Kupwara, Shamsheer Husain, ADC Handwara, Peer Muzaffar Ahmad, DSP Hanwara, Farooq Ahmad, ACR Kupwara and other district officers associated with the disaster management campaigns at various levels in the district.
