Burglary in house, temple; gold worth lakhs stolen

KATHUA/SAMBA, Nov 8: Some unknown thieves broke into a house near Hiranagar and decamped with gold  worth over Rs 10 lakhs and some other items last night while another theft has been reported in a temple at Samba town.
A police spokesman said some thieves barged into the house of two brothers namely, Ganesh Dutt and Satpal at Pati Hamlet near Chakra village of Hiranagar in district Kathua last night. The incident took place when the family members had gone to  attend a marriage function in the neighbourhood.
When the family   members were busy in marriage function, thieves broke their wall in the backyard and entered inside. They had screened the entire house and collected jewellery (32 tola gold), some other items and Rs 12,000 cash and decamped. They also took away a box with them which was later found emptied in the fields at some distance in the morning.
The matter came to light only after family members returned from marriage at around 11.15 pm. They raised alarm. The villagers gathered there and the matter was informed to Hiranagar police.
SHO Hiranagar and DySP border visited the spot in the morning. The police registered a case and started investigation. No clue could be established so far. It was however, believed that it was handiwork of some locals.
Meanwhile, some thieves barged into Ram temple at Sangwali Mandi  in Samba last night and decamped with gold ornaments. The temple priest came to know about the matter in the morning and informed locals. The matter was later reported to Samba police which started investigation after registration of a case.
