Natraj Natya Kunj organizes programme on Dogri `Bhaakh’

JAMMU, Oct 12: In an effort of showcasing the rich folk practices of music and dance, Natraj Natya Kunj Cultural Society Jammu, today presented the unique legacy of ‘Bhaakh’ at Abhinav Theatre Jammu, here today.
The magic of Bhaakh, considered as rare singing tradition of folk music unique to Duggar, was brought before audience by legendary singer Asha Kesar along with singers like Sudesh Manhas and  Sonika Jamwal who were accompanied by Girdhari Lal Sharma on Harmonium, Sunil Kumar on flute and Rajeev Kumar on rhythm.
President of the Group Kumar A ‘Bharti’ said that team NNK takes pride in presenting one of the most celebrated folk singing form of Dogri music ‘Bhaakh’. He also highlighted the typical musical structure of ‘Bhaakh’ and its importance in Dogra cultural life.
Chief Guest on the occasion,  Padma Shri Balwant Thakur, Regional Director Indian Council For Cultural Relations J&K, said, “If we can contribute anything exclusive to national as well as international artistic heritage, it is Bhaakh, the musical style typical to Dogri speaking area of Jammu region.
Speaking to the media, Dr  Rajinder Thappa, Advisor of the group said, ‘The time has come when Dogra folk form with distinctive singing style where singers singing simultaneously in high and low pitches and create ‘chord’, a matchless special effect of ‘musical harmony’, is showcased to the world for its universal appeal’.
The show was ably conducted by Sars Bharti and presented by Tejan Bharti and Hema Shivgotra.
Prominent writers, poets and members of civil society,  who attended the function,  included Anjali Sharma,  Director All India Radio, Prof  Lalit Mangotra, Chatterpal and  Dr  H K  Bhagat.
