Pahari students take out rally, highlight demands

MENDHAR, Nov 8: Demanding inclusion of Pahari language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution, students today held a protest demonstration against the Government.
Amid slogans, hundreds of Pahari students from Government Degree College (GDC) and various schools including Government Higher Secondary School, Government Middle School, etc assembled at the main gate of college under the banner of Pahari Speaking Student Union and took out a rally towards main chowk, demanding redressal of their demands.
Students were demanding ST status for Pahari people, political reservation, reservation in admission to higher educational institutions, removal of marks per cent for scholarship, inclusion of Pahari language in the 8th Schedule and other demands.
Later, from main chowk, students marched towards Sub District Magistrate (SDM) office and staged protest infront of SDM Office.
Addressing the gathering, Raja Mehmood Iqbal Khan, provincial president, Pahari Speaking Student Union, said that the Government has turned deaf ear towards their demands, compelling them to adopt agitational path.
He said that they put their demands before the Government various times, but till date nothing has been done.
Reports poured in that Pahari students also held protest in various towns of the tehsil Medhar including Harni area.
