DUBAI, Nov 8: Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has awarded 330-metre terminal project to Dubai Ports World (DPW).
JNPT Chairman L Radhakrishnan presented the formal Letter of Award for the container project to DP World Chairman Sultan Ahmad bin Sulayem at a ceremony held on Tuesday.
Once constructed, the new terminal will add 800,000 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent container units) of container capacity to the port and help ease congestion, as the port is currently operating beyond capacity.
The terminal is expected to commence operations in 2015.
Speaking on the occasion, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said they are very pleased to have the opportunity to further develop Jawaharlal Nehru Port and contribute in a very direct way to the growth of India’s economy by improving the efficiency of the supply chain for importers and exporters.
“Being one of the strongest emerging economies in the world, with a burgeoning middle class population, India offers immense potential for growth in the maritime sector,” said Mohammed Sharaf, Group Chief Executive Officer, DP World. (PTI)
