KATHUA, Oct 15: One person was injured in police lathicharge at Lakhanpur after the mob held a protest demonstration and blocked Jammu-Pathankot National Highway for one and a half hour in protest against the highhandedness of SHO Lakhanpur.
The residents of Krdoh and adjoining villages took out a procession and held demonstration at Lakhanpur protesting against the SHO of Lakhanpur Police Station.
The protesters raising slogans squatted on the road and disrupted the movement of vehicular traffic on NH from 8 pm to 9:30 pm.
To disperse the agitating mob, the police resorted to lathicharge in which one youth from Krdoh village was injured and he was later hospitalized. The SSP Kathua,Suleman Choudhary and Dy SP, DR Kathua also visited the spot to pacify the agitated people. Later the protesters dispersed after the police lathicharge.
They alleged that the SHO was unnecessary harassing the innocent people especially the bikers, shopkeepers and other business community members. They said that despite the repeated pleas to the higher authorities to take action against him they failed forcing the people to block NH today.
The protesters also demanded immediate transfer of SHO.
