Open more routes along LoC: CCI

JAMMU, Nov 9: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu while welcoming the statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding opening of  Jammu-Sialkote route urged the Government to take effective steps in opening other routes along  the Line of Control.
In a press statement issued here today, president of the CCI, Y V Sharma  said that opening of  these routes will help in strengthening relations between the two sides and also give boost in trade activities  in this part of the region. Mr Sharma said Chamber and other business organizations had been pleading with the Government for the last several years on the issue.
“Such initiatives not only open new channels for the development of trade  and industry but also enhance people to people interactions and create a congenial atmosphere of peace, stability and reconciliation in the region. The experience of opening trade routes along LoC has paid dividends and opening of more routes can strengthen the trade and industry,” he added.
Chamber  appealed to the Chief Minister to open not only Jammu-Sialkote route but also open other routes along the LoC in Jammu region. It said the Prime Minister of India should give not to the proposal of the State Government and expedite work on it. The CCI said that better trade ties would further help in strengthening confidence building measures between the two countries.
