JAMMU, Oct 20: Senior Congress leader and former R&B Minister Abdul Majid Wani, who remained MLA from Doda constituency from 2002 to 2014 has castigated the State Government for withdrawing security from his residence in Jammu.
Wani, who had played an important role in supporting the nationalist forces in whole erstwhile Doda district during the days when militancy was at its peak, termed the decision as unjustified and politically motivated. The former Congress Minister said he had also succeeded in maintaining peace and harmony among Hindus and Muslims, especially during the 2008 Amarnath row. The whole of J&K was burning, but Doda maintained peace and communal harmony with his efforts and personal influence of his family including his father late Khawaja Ghulam Ahmad Wani, who himself was seriously injured in a militants’ attack.
He said their whole family business was badly damaged, as well as, their number of houses, other properties in Doda district and in Srinagar were burnt by the militants. This was duty of the security reviewing agencies in J&K to go through all these records, before taking one sided decision taken on behest of some vested interests.
Expressing his shock and annoyance over the decision of the State Govt in withdrawing security at his residence in Jammu, Wani said that the decision is biased and against the main stream leaders, who along with their families are being made vulnerable to anti- national forces under a mischievous design. He made an appeal to the Chief Minister to immediately intervene into this serious issue and review the security and a number of police personnel provided to the police officers in their residences posted either in non-operational zones or in civil/ traffic or other such wings of J&K Police.
He claimed that Governments are not run by launching political vendetta against the political opponents but the major Govt decisions or policies need to be framed in close consultation and taking opposition leaders into confidence.
