JAMMU, Oct 20: Alleging that the Jammu University bye-passed all established norms and violated the rules while selecting Assistant Professors in various teaching departments just to extend undue benefits to blue-eyed candidates, National Secular Forum (NSF) has demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
Addressing a press conference, here today, the NSF president Dr Vikas Sharma claimed that the screening process adopted by the JU for short listing the candidates for interview was illegal as the same was not adopted under established norms.
“To fill the vacant positions, JU constituted a Committee of Campus Deans to deliberate upon screening criteria to be adopted for the selection. The committee in its meeting held on May 13, 2016 resolved to constitute a Sub-Committee of Deans to look into the same. The Sub-Committee held its meet on May 20, 2016 and resolved that criteria adopted by Kashmir University vide University Council Resolution No. 4.26.1 be adopted for short listing of the candidates for the already advertised positions,” he recalled and added that the minutes of the Committee were approved by the Vice Chancellor on May 23, 2016 and the same were placed before the next Academic Council Meet (on May 31, 2016).
“But, the matter was not taken to Academic Council Meet held on May 31, 2016. Thereafter, Syndicate Meet was held on Aug 20, 2016 and the matter was deliberately not taken up there also. The Vice Chancellor had apprehended opposition from members of Academic Council (HoDs of various teaching departments, JU and KU deans) owing to which he adopted the method of bye-pass and took up the matter some six months later in next Syndicate and that too without taking the same in Academic Council,” Dr Vikas alleged.
The NSF president further alleged that the whole drama was enacted to favour some blue eyed which is evident from the fact that Kashmir University itself modified the criteria adopted vide University Council Resolution No. 4.26.1 through Order No. KU/Rectt/Shortlisting Criteria/16 Dated: 02/05/2016 and gave it wide publicity through Advt Notice No. F/Asstt Prof/KU/Rec/16 Dated June 29, 2016; whereas JU continued to follow the old criteria and that too without giving it wide publicity for public information.
He demanded CBI probe to unearth the whole bungling and urged the Governor and Chief Minister to take cognizance of the matter forthwith.
