JAMMU, Oct 22: Senior Citizens’ Rejuvenation Centre (SCRC) today organized a function here today to celebrate its 4th foundation day.
Dr Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister of the State, was the chief guest on the occasion while Mahajan Rattan, TR Gupta presided over the function. MLC Vikram Randhawa, Harinder Gupta (BJP State general secretary) and Anil Gupta were guests of honour.
The function started with lighting of ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries along with Bal Krishan Gupta (president, SCRC and Trikuta Nagar Development Council).
In his welcome address, Dr AK Kalsotra (general secretary, SCRC) briefed the guests and the gathering about the activities being carried out by the centre. He said that at least 20-30 members daily assembled in the centre for recreation, social service and spiritual awakening by way of recitation of Gayatri mantra, chanting of ‘Om’ and reading of Bhagwat Gita. Yoga sessions are also taken up periodically, he added.
Besides, the birthdays of all the members of SCRC are celebrated in the centre with great fervor and enthusiasm. He said that the complaints of general nature of the masses regarding electricity, water supply and roads/drains are also listened and taken up with the respective departments for redressal by the centre.
Dr Nirmal Singh, in his address, saluted the SCRC for spreading happiness on the thoughts that ‘life is short so enjoy it’. Stating that main focus of the senior citizens should be how to attain peace of mind, he gave some useful tips for the same.
The Deputy Chief Minister assured his full support and all possible help for the welfare of the senior citizens to SCRC. He also assured registration of the centre with Municipal Corporation, Jammu.
Earlier, Shreyansh K Jain, advisor of SCRC, recited a poem composed by him on the working of the centre and life history of Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh. He was also awarded Life Time Achievement Award in Yoga keeping in view his contribution for propagation of Yoga in the society.
MLC Vikram Randhawa and other guests also spoke on the occasion.
