JAMMU, Oct 25: The 30th zonal round IAP quiz for undergraduates was held today here at ASCOMS and Hospital.
Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) has been organizing this important scientific activity for the last 30 years throughout India and for the second time in a row, the zonal round was held today in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
Out of the 75+ medical colleges in the North Zone, ASCOMS & Hospital was selected because of its peculiar academic records. Dr Ravinder Kumar Gupta, Professor and Head Department of Pediatrics, ASCOMS, was the zonal coordinator of the activity.
Dr Yashpal Sharma, Registrar Academics, Government Medical College, Jammu, Senior Pediatricians– Dr SS Slathia, Dr Narinder Pargal, Dr Rajesh Gupta and Dr Shabeer Gut, and Pediatric Surgeon, Dr Lucky Gupta, were present among the audience.
Dr Pavan Malhotra, Director/Principal ASCOMS & Hospital in his welcome address, appreciated the efforts of the Department of Pediatrics in organizing this regular event. The auditorium was jam packed and the audience equally participated in the quiz. Present in the audience were senior faculty members, resident and MBBS and nursing students of ASCOMS & Hospital.
This scientific activity sensitizes the MBBS undergraduate students to compete for further competitive exams and gives a glimpse of reality. The quiz contestants after selection from various divisions of North India that participated in this annual affair were from AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Jodhpur IGMC Shimla and GMC Amritsar.
After an intense contest, GMC Amritsar emerged as the winners. Second place was secured by AIIMS Delhi, third place by IGMC Shimla and the final place was secured by AIIMS Jodhpur. The winners were awarded by the dignitaries.
The team of Aliapreet Kour and Anandjit Kour, from GMC Amritsar, will go forward and represent the North Zone of Indian Academy of Pediatrics at Nagpur, in the first week of January.
