JAMMU, Oct 28: A 22-year-old mentally retarded youth today allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Chenab River from new bridge in Akhnoor area of city outskirts.
Eyewitnesses immediately informed the police, which reached the spot and started search operation for the youth. However, after few hours, his body was recovered from on the bank of Chenab River at Chandian near Gurudawara.
The deceased was identified as Kulbir Singh son of Shanak Singh, resident of Kot Maira, tehsil Khour. After postmortem of the body at SDH Akhnoor and other legal formalities, it was handed over to its legal heirs for last rites.
In this connection, Akhnoor police had initiated inquest proceedings under 174 CrPC.
