Hakla for opening of hostels for Gujjar students

POONCH, Oct 28: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi a prominent Gujjar leader and intellectual of the State while expressing his serious concern over the plight of Gujjars whose literacy rate is very low demanded that concerted efforts be made in this regard so that the Gujjar children both male and female can get adequate opportunities for schooling.
While addressing a meeting of the members of nomadic community here, today he demanded that Prime Minister’s slogan of Beti Bachao, Beti Padao be implemented in letter and spirit in the State and the Gujjar and Bakerwals be given its due benefit who have been ignored over these years. He said during last 70 years of independence majority of girl students of the community were deprived of these facilities.
Hakla demanded opening of hostels for boys and girls of the community at tehsil and district headquarters of the State so that they can avail education opportunities. He also made and appeal to Women Commission in the State to take steps for the betterment and welfare of Gujjar women and destitute.
