JAMMU, Oct 30: Six day State level workshop to prepare textual material in Gojri commenced here , today. Organised by Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education, the inaugural function was held at Conference Hall of the Board.
Dr. Farooq Ahmad Peer, Director Academics-BOSE presided over the programme, while Dr. Javaid Rahi -noted Gojri scholar and Chief Editor Gojri in Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Dr. Yasir Hamid Sirwal , Asstt. Director Academics, and Dr. Anuradha Sharma Academic Officer were in the presidium.
Dr. Farooq Ahmad Peer in his presidential address stated that the main objective of this workshop is to boost Gojri language through the development of text books in Gojri for Middle standard from 6th to 8th classes. He said BOSE is developing, reviewing and revising text books in 8 regional languages to meet the aspiration of local people. He said Gojri is an important language of our State and we have already prepared a set of text book from 1st to 5th for primary level students , and is a part of our school curriculum.
Dr. Javaid Rahi- who is the convenor of Gojri language for developing textual material /text books for BOSE in his address said that Gojri deserves more attention from State Board of School Education to be included in the curriculum upto 12th class. He said speakers of Gojri are scattered in almost all the districts of the State and can’t read or write other regional languages like Kashmiri, Dogri or Bothi. So its essential to provide them education in their mother tongue properly.
He appreciated the BOSE authorities for their fresh initiative and endeavour to develop Gojri through its inclusion in school curriculum.
Those who participated in the workshop included noted Gojri writer Jan Mohammad Hakeem, Amin Anjum, Abdul Majeed Chowdhary , Ch Mohammad Aslam , Rajinder Singh, Suresh Goriya , and Ranjeet Singh Manhas.
