JAMMU, Nov 3: The Central University of Jammu organized a sensitization programme on the theme – “My Vision-Corruption Free India”, here today in connection with Vigilance Awareness Week, which is being observed from October 30.
Justice J P Singh, Member J&K State Accountability Commission and former Judge High Court of Jammu & Kashmir, was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, he said that corruption has crept into almost all the institutions of our country. “Though many laws have been framed to curb corruption, most of the laws have proved to be ineffective and are being observed more in breach,” he added and pointed out that the anti-corruption laws in India are only punitive in nature and do not have preventive mechanism. He emphasized that in order to combat corruption multi-pronged strategy is required.
Justice J P Singh further emphasized the need for Redressal Forums so that citizens get their wrongs redressed at the doorstep and are not compelled to pay bribe. He advised that necessary steps should be taken to make the rural people aware of their rights by dissemination of information about the evil effects of corruption. He concluded his lecture with an observation that both punitive as well as preventive measures are required to be taken by the State to combat corruption.
Professor Ashok Aima, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, in his presidential remarks, laid stress upon the need to be vigilant and watch closely the happenings in the society that erode the faith of the people in Governance. He said that the corruption free society would produce better citizens having national character and devoted to nation building. He advised the students to understand their responsibilities towards the society and wage a collective war in combating corruption.
Dr S K Sharma, Professor Swami Vivekananda Chair and Chief Vigilance Officer CUJ apprised about various activities conducted during the Awareness Week-2017.
In essay competition on the theme -“My Vision – Corruption Free India”, the winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates in order of merit. 1st prize was bagged by Shivani Jamwal, 2nd by Bikash Prasad and 3rd by Neha Baloria while 1st Consolation prize was given to Sachin Sharma and 2nd Consolation to Mohd. Nadaem.
