JAMMU, Nov 3: Coming in support of the Government for the continuation of Toll Post at Lakhnapur, Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA), Jammu today said that Lakhanpur Toll Post is a safeguard for the industrial sector of J&K, as the Toll Post is working as a tool to stop the import of unaccounted goods in the State by some vested interests.
In the executive committee meeting of BBIA held today under the chairmanship of its president, Lalit Mahajan, members said that Toll Tax at Lakhanpur checks the import/export of unaccounted goods, contraband and other banned items to and fro from other parts of the country and if State Government withdraws the Toll Tax at Lakhanpur, the whole State shall be flooded with the unaccounted goods and other related material which will prove as death nail for the industrial sector of the State.
It was strongly resolved in the meeting that Government should not remove Toll Tax Checkpost at Lakhanpur and the Toll exemptions should be continued in GST regime to the existing as well as new industrial units to compensate the additional transportation cost on the raw materials and finished goods.
The meeting further suggest that the State Government should develop a software for the issuance of Toll Tax receipt having the details of GST number of the importing persons with a provision to generate extra copy of the Toll Tax receipt for onwards submission to the Commercial Tax Post for verification purpose to plug the entry of unaccounted goods in the State.
The members also raised serious concern in respect of repeated attempts of some vested interests who are regularly giving bandh calls and are bent upon to destroy the industrial sector of J&K by raising their voice for the removal of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur.
The BBIA requested the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Industries Minister Chander Parkash Ganga to intervene into the matter and ensure that the Toll Tax at Lakhanpur should be continued for the safeguard of J&K industrial sector.
