Srinagar, Nov 3: Army today foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Macchil sector of Kupwara district killing a militant while security forces launched a massive operation against the militants responsible for the killing of Bhartiya Janta Party youth president.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that Army foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in Macchil sector killing a militant. “One militant was killed and a weapon was recovered,” the spokesman said, adding the operation was on.
Sources said that troops of 57 RR laid an ambush at Lashdat in Macchil sector during the night after they observed suspicious movement of infiltrators near the LoC fence. This morning at around 9:15 a.m the troops established contact with the infiltrators killing one of them. The operation against the rest of the members of the group is going on.
In the meantime, Police today identified the killers of Bhartiya Janta Party Youth president, Gowher Bhat, and launched a massive search operation against them.
Shopian Police has identified the killers of Gowher Bhat of Shopian, whose throat slit body was recovered from Kiloora village yesterday.
The militants involved in the killing have been identified as Hamas resident of Pakistan, Umer Nazir resident of Malikgund of Lashkar-e-Toiba, Ishfaq Thoker, resident of Paderpora and Zubair Turay resident of Shopian of Hizbul Mujahideen.
Police have announced cash reward for the persons whose information will lead to their apprehension or killing.
A case (FIR No 277/2017 u/s 302,34 RPC , 16 ULA(P) Act) has been registered in Police Station Shopian and investigation is going on.
In the meantime, Army today paid tributes to two of its comrades who were killed in an encounter in Pulwama district of South Kashmir last evening.
“In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Corps Commander, Chinar Corps and all ranks paid homage to the martyrs on behalf of a proud nation. In a show of solidarity, officials and representatives from the State Government and other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyrs”, Army said.
“Late Sep Suraj Singh Topal and Late Sigmn Kushwah Pradip Singh Brijkishor Singh sustained bullet injuries during the fierce operation at Sambura in Pulwama District. They were provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 BH but succumbed to the injuries”, said Army spokesman.
“Martyr Sep Suraj Singh Topal, 25 years of age, had joined Army in 2012 and hailed from Village Falota located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. He is survived by his parents and two sisters”, the spokesman added.
“Coming from Village Savitrinagar in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, the young martyr Signalman Kushwah Pradip Singh S/o Brijkishor Singh was only 22 years and had donned the uniform in 2013. He is survived by his parents and a brother”.
“The mortal remains of the martyrs were flown for last rites to their native places, where they would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved families of the martyrs and remains committed to their dignity and well being”, he added.
