KUPWARA: Minister for Rural Development Panchayat Raj Abdul Haq on Saturday said the People in the rural areas especially women have suffered a lot in the past as they had to walk miles to fetch water despite scorching heat or chilling cold. He said the current dispensation is committed to provide pure drinking water supply to them as steps are being taken to lay a Web of water Supply Schemes which can provide clean drinking water to the people.
The Minister said this during visit to various villages of Kupwara district to review the functioning of various water supply schemes and get firsthand information about the water supply scenario in the district.
He was accompanied by Chief Engineer PHE and other senior officers of the district. They visited Sarkuli, Lashtiyal, Kalaroos, Czepora, Cherkoot, and other villages and interacted with the locals to get the feedback about water supply system.
He said the government was duty bound to supply clean and pure drinking water to the people of the state and it has adopted a holistic approach to streamline water supply scenario in the state especially in rural areas.
Minister said the people in the rural areas especially women have earlier suffered a lot as there are many such areas where they have to walk miles to fetch water and that steps are being taken to provide pure drinking water supply to people in these areas. He said many Water Supply Schemes have been commissioned while many are under construction which will be soon dedicated to the people.
The locals apprised the Minister about various issues regarding drinking water.
Minister passed on spot directions for the redressal of their greviances.
The Minister also visited various under construction Waster Supply Schemes and directed for early completion of the projects. He said Government is committed to ease the living of the people especially living in far flung areas and that Chief Minister has directed them to go to the doorsteps of the people to know their woes and provide relief to them.
