NC trying to gag democratic, constitutional institutions: PDP

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Nov 12: Alleging that Minister for PHE, I&FC Taj Mohi-ud-Din was rewarded for supporting Union Minister Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, PDP legislator  Murtaza Khan today said that NC-led Coalition Government was trying to gag the democratic and constitutional institutions in the State.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Khan who was chairman of the committee probing charges of land grabbing against PHE Minister, alleged that NC tried to shield the Minister because he had fully supported Farooq Abdullah when his name figured in JKCA scam and his son  Omar Abdullah as well when later’s name figured in the alleged murder of  Haji Yousuf.  “NC now fully supported and rewarded Taj Mohi-ud-Din as its two members Dr Bashir Ahmed Veeri and Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy were first made to resign from the committee. The Minister also mounted pressure on own party legislators to resign from the committee. One of the members namely Bashir Magray exposed the Minister in media and revealed the truth,” Mr Khan maintained.
The PDP legislator, who was accompanied by former Minister and senior PDP leader S Rangil Singh further said that Chairman of the Upper House had to dissolve the committee and NC is mainly responsible for it. He said if the Minister was not at fault as he claimed on the floor of the house that he will step down if anything wrong was proved against him, then what was the need to pressurise the members for seeking their resignation. It seems that there was something fishy. Mr Khan said Accountability Commission was made toothless and the State Information Commission and Vigilance Commissions were weakened by present NC led regime. Amendment in RTI Act was incorporated as per their convenience and promote corruption and to shield the corrupts. Now, this constitutional committee also died premature death due to misdeeds of NC. He alleged that Omar led Government has tried to gag the democratic and constitutional institutions and the common people have been losing faith in the system.
