RAJOURI, Nov 12: The police has rescued 31 bovines, by foiling three smuggling attempts in Peeri, Thannamandi and Kalakote area of district Rajouri last night. Eight smugglers were also nabbed while two managed to escape giving slip to the police naka team.
Official sources said that a police team headed by Incharge Police Post Peeri, SI Naseer Ahmed under the supervision of DySP Operations Sukhdev Singh laid a naka at Sakri road and intercepted two vehicles bearing registration No JK 11B/ 8596 and JKO2AN/ 8826.
The vehicles were found loaded with eight bovine animals which have been rescued. Two persons, namely Liaqet Ali, son of Mohd Daud, resident of Kotranka and Abdul Khaliq, son of Mohd Yaqoob, resident of Jamola have been arrested. A case was registered against them.
Kalakote police team headed by SHO, Darshan Singh intercepted a Tata Mobile vehicle last night at Sialsui naka but driver and smuggler stopped the vehicle at some distance from naka and fled the spot. Nine bovines were found loaded in it. The vehicle has been seized along with cattle by police and search started to nab the smuggler and driver. A case has been registered at Kalakote Police Station against them.
Similarly, police team headed by SHO Thannamandi Karan Chalotra under the supervision of SDPO Thannamandi, Iftikhar Chowdhary intercepted and seized three vehicles smuggling bovines and arrested six accused involved in smuggling.
14 bovine animals have been rescued and seized by police from the clutches of the smugglers moving to Kashmir via Mughal Road.
Cases under relevant sections have been registered in Thannamandi Police Station against them.
