Declare Hari Singh’s birth anniversary as holiday: Ranvijay Singh

JAMMU, Nov 15: The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been pressing hard since long for declaration of holiday on September 23, 2017, the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh only because of his good deeds for the betterment and welfare of the people of J&K.
Ranvijay Singh, Trustee Maharaja Hari Singh Social and Education Foundation, Jammu said this after interacting with a number of delegations and addressing media persons in Jammu today.
Singh said that Maharaja had done remarkable reforms for the welfare of the general public like banning of the child marriage, untouchability and smoking,  besides promoting widow marriage, free education for all and treating Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and others equally.
He said, social reforms done by Maharaja about hundred years back are very important and useful even today, adding Maharaja was an epitome of good governance who allowed the people to live their life respectfully and peacefully.
He further said that Legislative Council of J&K had already passed a resolution on January 24, 2016 for declaration of holiday on September 23, 2017.
He appealed to J&K State Government for declaration of holiday on September 23, keeping in view the strong public demand as Maharaja deserved it.
SS Sodhi, Chairman, J&K Intellectual Civil Society and President, Sikh Brotherhood has also supported this demand and requested the Government to declare the holiday as early as possible.
