SRINAGAR: World famous ski resort of Gulmarg and other higher reaches received fresh snowfall in the Kashmir valley, where plains, including summer capital, Srinagar, experienced rain resulting in further chill on Friday.
Leh was coldest after the minimum temperature recorded further drop and settled at minus 6.9 degree followed by border town of Kargil and Gulmarg minus 5.6 degree. Light rain or snow would occur at scattered places in the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, a Met department spokesman said.
However, he said the weather will remain dry during the subsequent two days in the State. The famed ski resort of Gulmarg, 55 km from here in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, received several inches of fresh snowfall. It was snowing, much to the delight of tourists and traders associated with the tourism, a hotel owner told reporters over phone Friday afternoon.
He said upper reaches, including Kongdori, Khilanmarg and Affarwat, highest skiing point connected by Cable Car, received moderate snowfall during the past 24 hours. However, due to fresh snowfall the minimum temperature recorded more than a notch drop and settled at minus 5.6 degree, about six notches below normal. (AGENCIES)
